Zac Efron misses anonymity
September 5, 2008 | 7 Comments
Unlike his girlfriend, Vanessa Hudgens, who allegedly was irate when she recently went unrecognized at an airport, Zac Efron told Teen Vogue that he sometimes wishes he could be anonymous. “You don’t realize until it’s gone,” he said, about being unable to go places unnoticed. “But it is so important to feel normal.” However, he’s not trying to seek pity. “I’m not going to complain,” he added. “But it’s something I’m learning to cope with.” Efron, who stars in the upcoming High School Musical 3: Senior Year, has just wrapped up starring roles in the big screen films 17 Again and Me and Orson Welles (showing tonight and Thursday night at Ryerson Theatre as part of the Toronto International Film Festival). He admits the latter film inspired him to develop a real love for the cinema. “I would never have, until now, called myself a movie buff,” he said. “But I’ve found so many films that I never knew existed.”

Harry Potter star lost virginity at 16
September 5, 2008 | 16 Comments
In a move that is surely an effort to shed his good boy/Harry Potter image, Daniel Radcliffe recently admitted to Details magazine that he lost his virginity at age 16—to an older woman. Radcliffe didn’t name the woman who ‘deflowered’ him, however sources say the temptress is Amy Byrne, an assistant hairdresser who was 23 when they met on the set of Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. The age difference “wasn’t ridiculous,” Radcliffe, now 19, said of the affair. “But it would freak some people out.” Despite his sexy shenanigans and nude appearances on stage in Equus, Radcliffe insists his life isn’t too racy. “I don’t pretend to do anything particularly wild,” he says. “I just like wrong-footing people. I write poetry and I love it. I like being different from most other people in my generation.” Sounds like Radcliffe is well on his way to making the transition from child star to adult Hollywood heartthrob.

Beyonce wants to be an icon
September 5, 2008 | 4 Comments
In a recent interview with Marie Claire UK, Dreamgirls’ Beyoncé Knowles admitted she doesn’t care about being a pop star and, instead, wants to be a major icon. “[There’s a time limit on] being a pop star, yes. Being a legend, an icon, absolutely not. And, at this point, that’s what I’m trying to do,” she told the magazine. “I’m over being a pop star.” Knowles traded in her short dresses and high heels for her latest role as the legendary Etta James in the upcoming Cadillac Records. She reportedly gained 20 pounds for the role—a strategy that has proven to impress Hollywood (a la Renée Zellweger’s rise to A-list status after Bridget Jones’s Diary). “I don’t wanna be a hot girl. I wanna be iconic,” Knowles explains. But, you can’t always get what you want, Miss Knowles—and if 14-year-old boys have anything to say about it, you’ll just be that “hot girl” for a while.

Despite objections, David Spade is a dad
September 4, 2008 | 11 Comments
David Spade is the new father of a baby girl with former fling/Playboy Playmate Jillian Grace. Up until now, Spade had vehemently denied being the father and reportedly ordered a paternity test. The former Saturday Night Live star admitted to having a brief relationship (in other words, a one-night stand) with Grace and vowed to take full responsibility if he was the father. But, even after test results proved him to be the biological dad, Spade has still not seen his daughter, who was born on August 26th. “David and Jillian have been in close contact throughout her pregnancy and he plans to go see the baby during his first break from shooting Rules of Engagement,” Spade’s rep, Meredith O’Sullivan, explained to People magazine. Hopefully he’ll eventually be able to work his daughter into his busy schedule.

Britney Spears to open MTV’s VMAs
September 4, 2008 | Leave a Comment
Following last year’s embarrassing performance at MTV’s Video Music Awards, no one expected Britney Spears to come back for retribution—but that’s exactly what she’s doing. The pop princess has confirmed that she will be part of an opening segment that will not feature a musical performance (and we thank her for that). In a statement released to People magazine, Spears said she was looking forward to the show. “MTV has long played an important role in my career. How can I not be there to kick off their 25th VMAs? I’m excited to open the entire show, to say hi to my fans and to be nominated.” With 16 previous nominations, Spears has yet to take home an award from the show, but this might just be her year. Spears is up for Best Female Video, Best Pop Video and Video of the Year for “Piece of Me.”

Anne Hathway paid ex-boyfriend’s $37,000 rent
September 4, 2008 | 5 Comments
According to a new Vanity Fair article, Anne Hathaway paid her ex-boyfriend Raffaello Follieri’s $37,000 monthly rent for four months until his lease ran out. (That’s close to $150,000. Must be nice to have that kind of money to spare.) The pair met in spring 2004, but shortly after it was reported by the media that he was involved in illegal activities, she broke up with him over the phone. By then, he was staying at his parents’ place at Trump Tower. Just hours after the tearful breakup, Follieri was arrested by the FBI on charges of money laundering and wire fraud. According to the feds, he conned Read more

Amy Winehouse brain damaged?
September 3, 2008 | 7 Comments
It looks like suffering several major overdoses within a year really isn’t good for you. Who knew? According to The Sun, everyone’s favorite train wreck, Amy Winehouse, might be brain damaged—officially—after overdosing on drugs one or two times too many. Winehouse’s doctors are reportedly worried that the singer’s most recent overdose this past July has left her with permanent brain damage as she is now displaying “symptoms normally associated with schizophrenia,” reveals a source. Specialists have even warned Winehouse that one more overdose will kill her. And, just to add another worry to the ‘Rehab’ singer’s pile, Winhouse may have landed herself in legal trouble after cancelling a concert in Paris this weekend. Festival organizers stated they intend to pursue legal action. Oh Amy Winehouse, just go to rehab.

Heroes star wants to be Batman’s sidekick
September 3, 2008 | 5 Comments
It looks like having the coolest super powers on Heroes isn’t quite enough for Milo Ventimiglia. The 31-year-old actor told Showbizspy.com that he wants to play Robin if the character were ever featured again in a Batman movie. “I always thought I would make a great Robin,” he explains. Ventimiglia, who is dating his 19-year-old co-star Hayden Panettiere, is ready to don Boy Wonder’s green tights and help save the day. “I would love to be Christian Bale’s sidekick in Batman. Even when I was younger I never wanted to be Batman,” he reveals. “I have always wanted to be Robin. To this day I still think that would be pretty cool.” As for now, starring on a hit TV show will have to do. Heroes returns to primetime September 22.

Jennifer Aniston a stalker?
September 3, 2008 | 3 Comments
No, Jennifer Aniston’s not a stalker, but she will play one on TV. The former Friends star is returning to her roots and heading back for the small screen to appear on the hit sitcom 30 Rock. Aniston will play Claire Harper, a “free-spirited, Fatal Attraction-like stalker” according to NBC. Her character will be Tina Fey’s former roommate who arrives in New York and attaches herself to Alec Baldwin. Tina Fey is thrilled about Aniston’s upcoming guest appearance: “Jennifer is not only incredibly lovely to have around, she also has what the young people would call ‘mad skills.’ We’re very excited that she’s joining us,” said Fey. 30 Rock returns on October 30.
